The Dreaded Bridesmaid Dress

The time has come to talk about the beloved bridesmaid dress! I seriously had way too much fun writing this post and I am sorry that it may be a little scattered.

When it comes to bridesmaid dresses I personally believe that it is more important to pick a dress that fits and flatters each bridesmaid, rather than picking one dress you really love. This is where mismatched dresses come in. You can always go traditional and have your BMs wear the same exact dresses. Keep in mind that your girls probably all have very different body types and may not look good in all colors. Traditionally BM dresses come in muted and boring colors...but they have come a LONG way! Thanks to retailers like J.Crew, Ann Taylor, and Vera Wang.

These first two options work great when ordering from retailers like J.Crew.

Same Color, Different Dresses: J.Crew was pretty much the pioneer of this idea to cater to each different personality in the bridal party.

Same Color Palette (my favorite):This works very well when doing neutrals and natural palette. Think beige, champagne, brown, ivory, even baby pink. (A girl with pale skin probably doesn't want to wear an ivory dress yet it would look amazing against olive toned skins) When doing this you dont want the dresses to be over styled. The main goal is to have the bridesmaids look COORDINATED.

Style Me Pretty

I actually recognize a couple of these dresses from H&M and Forever 21. If you allow your BMs to choose their own dress they might even have something in their closet (or be able to buy something with wearibility.)

MOH in different color/print: This a really fun way to honor your MOH. Pick a slightly different dress than the rest of your girls to give her that stand out look.

I think this is actually the bride in the above picture but still- a very cute idea for the MOH. How charming is this color palette?

The LBD is a great alternative to a bridesmaid dress. Your girls would love this because who doesn't already have an little black dress!? This way everyone will be coordinated but without having the exact same dress. The look could be pulled together by all wearing the same pair of bright colored pumps or coordinating bouquets.

TwoBirds
TwoBirds Bridesmaid dresses are AMAZING!!! This site is definitely worth checking out! They make one dress and there are 15 ways to wear it!!! It is available in 17 colors, 4 lengths, two-toned, and this ADORABLE rosette option!!! I cannot say enough about these dresses! However, I am guessing that they only look flattering on a certain body type, but if you have a pack of model best friends- this is a great option!

If you choose to dress your BMs in all the same dress here are some fun options I came up with! Colorblocking is very trendy in bridal fashion right now.  Remember to keep it simple when it comes to the exact same dress- you can always play around with different bouquets and accessories. Have your girls wear their hair differently and throw on different shoes so they don't look like they have a uniform on.
Sashes are another fun idea to add when you have 4+ girls wearing the same exact dress. This will add a little bit of personality and change up the look!

Freestyle: This option allows your girls to wear a variety of options! Sometimes this look can be overwhelming but if you do it right it will turn out great! Again- sick to a color palette/florals/stripes...etc. Keep florals the same across the board and try to keep accessories to a minimal or coordinating.

Ah, here's that pack of model best friends I was talking about... One of my favorite bridal pics of all time. Molly Sims' wedding party looked amazing in long BM dresses. No two alike but the look is completely coordinated. Molly co-created each of the seven dresses with designer Elizabeth Kennedy (who is only 22!)

On Wednesday, I was walking down Charles St. with my friend Jess and we went into a store called Holiday. The store was beautiful inside and out- the minute I walked in I new I was in trouble! So it turns out, Holiday makes a signature collection of hand-made special event dresses! They had a gorgeous pink colorblocked dress in the store that I instantly wanted! These dresses are perfectly preppy and could easily transfer into your daily wardrobe. There are 8 different styles and a variety of colors available! These are perfect for a Beantown Bride! Visit HolidayBoutique.net or go into their store at 53 Charles St!
